Vice President for Advancement
Carson-Newman University, a Christian, liberal arts based university founded in 1851, associated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and located on the lake side of the Smoky Mountains in Jefferson City, Tennessee seeks a Vice President for Advancement. The Vice President for Advancement reports to the Executive Vice President of the University and is an active member of the Executive Council. The Vice President for Advancement leads and directs all college fundraising and alumni relations programs. This position provides leadership and direction in major gift and annual giving fundraising efforts, including corporate, foundation, and individual giving for the University. The Vice President for Advancement develops and implements strong programs that elicit philanthropic support from alumni, friends, family, organizations and corporations. This position oversees the programs designed to engage alumni in the life of the University.
Required education and experience: The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning and at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising with a successful record of designing, implementing and leading fundraising programs in a Christian college or university setting. The candidate must have demonstrated experience and knowledge in all fundraising aspects including corporate and foundation giving, annual giving and individual major gifts programs; demonstrated experience in obtaining major gifts, and have at least five years (5) years of management experience. In order to be successful in this position, a candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills; grant and proposal writing experience; demonstrated ability to handle complex tasks, to formulate plans, and to carry out objectives, and to interact effectively with individuals. This position will require frequent travel and evening work. Experience with advancement database programs such as Raiser’s Edge is a must.
