Graphic Designer/Art Manager

Carson-Newman University seeks a graphic designer/art manager to provide creative direction, conceptual design and design production for a wide range of projects produced by the office of University Relations including, but not limited to, marketing brochures, advertising, direct mail pieces and other print and online collateral. Principal duties include concept development, design, art direction, production and print coordination of a range of branded projects including high-profile pieces aimed at external audiences, marketing and fundraising materials, special event invitations and print ads.

This position requires extensive knowledge of pre-press and four-color printing process, as well as mastery of publications design and use of all relevant computer hardware and software. Working knowledge of the Adobe CS 6 (Creative Cloud) as well as other HTML-reliant software is needed to design and produce web versions of print publications as needed. Position requires desire and ability to learn new skills as technology advances, in order to keep the publications produced by the office pertinent and state-of-the-art.

The graphic designer/art manager is expected to work within the editorial and branding assets and guidelines set forth by the Office of University Relations at Carson-Newman University. Additionally, as a member of a high energy team charged with meeting critical deadlines for a number of high profile projects, the position requires a team-oriented, positive approach and commitment to producing high quality visual printed and online communication pieces. Excellent verbal, written, presentation and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and work with a variety of administrative clients, is a vital part of the position.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of University Relations and will manage any internal or outside vendors including printers and other professionals involved in related projects.

Education/Work Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a related field. Five to eight years' experience in graphic design in a marketing or advertising environment. Experience in higher education helpful. Graphic design and pre-press skills essential. Macintosh OS X computer experience with knowledge of the CS6 Creative Suite, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop are required. Technical skills must include scanning and working with digital photography as part of design work.
