Position Description

Job Title:  Director of Carson-Newman Annual Fund

Department:  Advancement

Reports To:  Vice President for Advancement

FLSA Status:  Full-time, Exempt

Summary Description:

The Carson-Newman fund is one of the primary revenue sources that generates unrestricted support toward university salaries, program budgets and other expenses. To meet ambitious annual goals, the Carson-Newman Fund director must be capable of designing, implementing and managing a program that successfully generates unrestricted gifts, maintains an effective stewardship program and plans to attract new donors.

Functional Description:

Develop short and long range goals for the Carson-Newman Fund in conjunction with the Advancement department’s strategic plan.

Serve as budget officer including requests for purchase and preparation of open PO requests.

Orchestrate phone-a-thon campaigns to solicit for gifts, encourage gift increases, and increase overall monthly giving.

Create and execute direct mail solicitations and email/social media appeals.Cultivate relationships with donors via personal visits and other stewardship techniques.Solicit leadership level gifts from key volunteers and selected prospects.Consistently analyze data to determine program progress and report accordingly.Collaborate with major gift fundraisers to develop avenues which elevate annual fund donors to major gift levels.Identify reunion chairpersons who will contribute 5-6 figure level gifts and generate enthusiasm for reunion group fundraising projects.Create and maintain reunion group Facebook pages.Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of work study students and/or graduate assistants.Volunteer management.

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience:  Minimum of 2-3 years in higher education fundraising or alumni relations.

Required Skills:

Self-motivated and results-oriented.Team player.Organized and detail oriented.Must maintain appropriate standards of confidentiality.Presents professional image in both dress and personal hygiene.Demonstrate grammatically correct and concise written and oral communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills; relationship builder.Excellent computer skills: proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising software and Microsoft Office required.
