Dear Prospective Student:

Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions you will make and perhaps your first major decision as an adult. The list of possible colleges and universities is endless and each one makes numerous promises in an effort to persuade you to choose them. At Carson-Newman College we understand the importance of this choice. It is more than an investment of money; it is an investment of the most important developmental years of your life. We take our responsibility of walking alongside you as you mature and develop intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually very important. We consider it a sacred trust.

As a first-year or transfer student at Carson-Newman you will experience a new community with a distinct culture, a faith-learning culture where studying, questioning, challenging your own presuppositions and those of others is valued. Carson-Newman is place where the discipline of researching, organizing your thoughts, writing, evaluating yourself and others is expected. Faculty and staff will dialogue with you as your mind is stretched and your faith is made stronger. C. S. Lewis wrote in the essay, Learning in Wartime:

Pursue knowledge and beauty for their own sake, but do not exclude their behaving for God’s sake. An appetite for these things exists in the human mind, and God makes no appetite in vain. We can therefore pursue knowledge as such and beauty as such, in the sure confidence that we are either advancing to the vision of God ourselves or indirectly helping others to do so.

At Carson-Newman College we want to feed your appetite for knowledge and beauty. As a Christian liberal arts institution with an overt mission of serving God through serving others, we are dedicated to advancing the broad vision of God. At C-N students learn to become ambassadors of hope and reconciliation in the world and agents of peace and transformation in their homes, churches and communities.

I hope you choose Carson-Newman College and encourage you to peruse our web site to discover other Carson-Newman experiences developed to challenge you and develop you into a servant-leader equipped to make our world a better place.
